Introduction

The aim and objective of this assignment is to analyze, how David Lloyd Leisure is managing innovation in its business operations. Upon asking of Board of the company, I would be developing a plan for improving the innovation capability of the David Lloyd Leisure by focusing on its strategy, projects and culture.

David Lloyd is one of the biggest sports, health and fitness club brand in the United Kingdom. It was established in 1980 as a specialist racquets operator with aim to bring the year round facilities to the United Kingdom. The first David Lloyd Leisure opened at Heston, Middlesex in 1982. It was built at a cost of £2.5m and with twelve indoor and nine outdoor tennis courts, three badminton courts and three squash courts (Work Smart 2013, p. n.d).

Britain worked out in the 1980s to David Lloyd Leisure upon the health and fitness boom with installing an indoor swimming pool, aerobics studio and gym at Heston. The company went one step forward with introducing a sports injury clinic and hair and beauty spa. By the middle of the decade the club had develop into one stop shop for sports, health and fitness needs of its members. It offered the model for future David Lloyd Leisure clubs and stimulated the maintained growth that would make the company as the market leader of United Kingdom.

At present, David Lloyd Leisure has more than 450,000 members and has employed around 6000 people; other than that, a team comprises of 18,00 health and fitness experts. It has now 12,500 exercising machines and over 150 swimming pools and is currently offering 10,000 exercise coaching classes per week (David Lloyd 2013, p. n.d.).

The products and services of David Lloyd Leisure includes provision of sports, health and fitness services in form of 77 leisure clubs, 2 Harbour Clubs and 1 next generation club in the UK. Moreover, David Lloyd Leisure extensive membership options provide people with range of member options to choose from depending on their level of budget and the need for availing club facilities (David Lloyd 2013, p. n.d.).
