Abstract

Over the past few years, degrees in the discipline of information technology have gained wide popularity. These degrees offer excellent chances of growth for an individual in the leading technological areas, such as Information and Communication technologies, and Information Systems. This essay discusses the future increases of information technology jobs. Several jobs in the area of information technology, that require information technology degrees are also discussed.

Introduction

The growth of information technology discipline has been tremendous over past few decades. A variety of job opportunities emerge with the advancements in this field, as public and private sector organizations have been engaged in developing information technology infrastructures. The information technology discipline covers various areas such as, Information and communication, Software Engineering, Data Storage, Networking, and most novel Information Systems.

Along with the other areas of information technology, information system considers as one of the most growing areas, from the perspective of job opportunities. According to the US department of labor, jobs in the area of Information systems are among the highest paying (BLS, 2012). Also, information systems jobs have been growing at the fastest rate, and further growth is expected in the near future.

In 2012 and beyond, the companies will utilize the concepts of big data processing that will involve storage and analysis of large data sets. This area will also great career opportunities.
