Case study 1 - Cropper's Brewery

The company was formed in October 1992. In 1993, the initial brew from the Grange Street site was an English Porter. The company undergone is rapid expansion that created the need to progress to larger premises although that was also outgrown and the business moved to the current North Melbourne location in 2005. There is the flexibility of brewing small batches with the two kettles of 5000L and 1200L and the 'economies of scale' with the bigger kettle. The company is brewing 1 million litres every year currently. The company maintains to include additional tanks to go with the expansion of the business. Packaging of the bottle is taken place on a bottling plant that whips out 330 ml bottles every hour. The company also offers 50 litre barrels for bars.

Business Information System is required to support the efficient operation of the expansion of Cropper's Brewery. The recommended Information System for the company is Management Information System that will cover several activities of business operation effectively and efficiently.

The injection of new capital ($5 million) will enable the brewery to expand production and increase sales from a small number of outlets in Melbourne and regional Victoria to the other State capitals and regional NSW. Getting faster access to the required information, managers can respond to the problem and can make improve or better decision about the future directions and procedures and competitive advantage and implement them quickly.
