Decision Support System

Introduction

Information System (IS) is made up of the combination of information technology and activity of people that bolster management, operations and decision making. Or is a set of nested elements that work with each other for the collection, processing, storage and distribution of the available information about a subject systematically to support decision making and to support the organization, control and analysis of the organization and build a perception of current and future clear on the subject of research.

Is usually used as the error term and it is synonymous with computerized information systems, which are not only technical information, and is one of the elements of the information system. Computerized information systems are part of a study of information technology.

In contrast to the management information systems of the sixties based decision support systems (DSS), called in English-speaking countries as "decision support systems," in the problem solving behaviour of managers. Decision support systems can be characterized by the following features:

A decision is supported.

It will be made ??to handle data and models.

Support is generally for poorly structured problems.

Decision support systems support to decision makers, accordingly, the problems, they take the decision as such but not off. Since users generally at managers, trade in , which a deep understanding or experience with a large information technology cannot be assumed to decision support systems to be easy to learn and operate.

Ill-structured problems are present when one or two stages of decision making is unstructured, that is, if they can be in terms of standard operating procedures, goals, and input and output variables do not specify exactly. Apply decision support systems in the business sector especially in the following task areas:

Portfolio Management

For example, the evaluation and risk assessment of restructuring in the securities portfolio

Strategic Planning

For example, for the preparation of decisions on the implementation of research and development tasks

Financial Planning

For example, the short-and medium-term financial and liquidity planning

Production Planning

For example, for economic analysis of production orders or production programs

Marketing

For example, the allocation of advertising budgets on the individual components of the marketing mix

Brief Chronicle

The concept of decision support has evolved from two main areas of research, theoretical studies of organizational decision making, made ??in the Carnegie Institute of Technology in late 1950 and early 1960, and technical work on interactive computer systems, mainly carried out at MIT in the 1960s, as explained by Keen (1980). It is considered that the concept of DSS became an area of ??research as such in the mid-1970s, before gaining in intensity during the 1980s.

It is clear that DSS belong to an environment with multidisciplinary foundations, including (but not exclusively) research database, artificial intelligence, human-machine interaction methods, simulation, software engineering and telecommunications. The DSS also have a weak connection with the paradigm of the user interface of hypertext.

Currently the DSS Systems (Decision Support) play an important role in the performance of decision making in business, information systems are a set of very important components within an organization because it can capture, process, store and distribute information while performing a feedback process to evaluate and correct planning procedures and decision making.

Currently the computer is a key tool for the ...
