Information System

Executive Summary

Decision Support System is mean of making improved decisions within an organization. The chosen organization is wide-ranging in terms of area, requirement of man power and size. After the initial study it was considered to deploy model of Decision Support System for different utilities purposely for the maintenance of attendance by making use of computerized systems and making reports for higher management as well as intermediate management. The previous system for the attendance recording in the organization had various drawbacks:

Maintaining the record of detailed information for each individual employee needed much documents and storing those documentations was another tiresome work.

Recording of details of old attendance of a particular employee was difficult in the previous system.

Any calculation mistake in the previous system was led to mistaken results.

There were not distinct levels of security and authorization in the previous system.

There were no services of complete backups for database and there was always situation of panic concerning about the loss of data.

Background

The Decision Support System is shared, adaptable and flexible information system that makes use of decision models and rules with widespread database and the own visions of the decision maker directing to implementable and particular decisions in resolving problems. Therefore, DSS maintains critical decision making and enhances its efficiency. DSS controls huge data amount like searches for database. It process and attains data from various sources that include external and internal data on mainframe systems and other networks. DSS provides presentation and report flexibility to go with the needs of the decision maker. DSS have both graphical and textual orientation like tables, charts etc. DSS performs high-tech and critical evaluation and comparison by making use of developed packages of software.

Methodology

Development and Design of DSS

The process of development of DSS associates with the business long-standing plans of an organization. DSS needs sources like capacity, time and capital. The outcome is the information in report form. Many organizations cannot identify information as source. They observe information like usual requirement. As organization develops, the information also enhances diversity. Plans for DSS are made simultaneous to the plans of business. Any size organization deals with number of information pieces. The DSS might be deployed by means of two ways:

Life cycle method

Prototype method

In life cycle method, DSS deployment is done in different stages. The stages include: intellect, design, selection, application and examination.

Within prototype method, early methods are made first. After the implementation of early methods, the system is modified and refined as per different requirements. This repetitive is pursued until process is acknowledged by the user (Davis and Olsan, 1985, pp 17). The selection of the design of DSS is made depending on the system nature and its implementations.

Design of DSS for Attendance System

The main target of this system is to make sure that employees attendance is correctly reported and recorded for the calculation of due payment, extra hours, allowances and due contributions etc.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities allocated at different organizational levels are: utilizing responsibilities of activities, accepting responsibility of officials ...
