Describe in your own words the process for identifying learning needs.

The process of learning need assessment must be designed carefully, as the entire learning process will be designed depending upon the findings in the assessment stage. This will help the instructors or employers to know the level of gap exists between the existing and required skills of the candidates. The knowledge can be tested by conducting interview of individuals or of groups, and then on depending upon the results, it will be decided that whether or not there is the need of learning for any individual or group. The expected outcomes and the observations from the interviews are assessed and the learning plans are designed accordingly.

Briefly explain the difference between data and information.

Data and information both are the types of knowledge but there is a great difference in the meanings of the two terms. “Data” refers to any collection of facts and figures which can not suggest any thing itself, as it is just a raw collection. When the same data is arranged or compiled in some useful form, then it is known as “information”.

For example, a researcher conducts any market survey and gets hundreds of forms filled. These filled forms will be considered as data, as the answers cannot give us any result. However when the same data will be compiled with the help f any statistical calculation, we will come to know about the exact results of the survey, these compiled results will be known as information.

3. Write brief definitions for knowledge and knowledge management.

Knowledge refers to the perception of a person about the facts, information and the skills which person acquires through the years of experience and education. It also includes the information and practical understanding about any specific subject (Cavell S., 2002, pp.241).

Knowledge management is a process designed by the organization for improving their performance. The process involves the collection and documentation of the knowledge, and then the distribution of this knowledge among the employees. Through the effective analysis of the gathered knowledge, organization work for improving their business processes



4. What is Australian Standard 5037-2005?

5037-2005 is an Australian standard about knowledge management systems. The guide is published by an independent company known as Standard Australia. It contains the guidelines about how knowledge management systems should be implemented by organizations incorporating their flexible frameworks. It essentially provides a blue print for knowledge management systems, which helps in planning, developing and assessing the knowledge (Ferguson S., 2006, pp. 197). The standard encourages the organization for using advanced technologies in the development of knowledge management systems, and mutual sharing of organizational skills and competencies.
