Introduction

This paper intends to explore the concept of Incident Command System. Further, an incident of Katrina Hurricane is discussed and it examines if incident command system was employed or not.

Incident Command System is extremely useful for incident management, but it also guides the process for planning, building, and adapting that structure. ICS make the plan for every incident or event. Incident command System has clarity of its policies and procedures, the efficiency of its workflow processes, and the quality of its record retention schedule.ICS is very productive and useful tool for prevention of natural hazards and preplan for protect by natural disaster.

Katrina Hurricane

History Katrina began as a slow-moving easterly wave of low pressure in the trade wind belt near the west coast of Africa. The mass of rain clouds traveled across the Atlantic Ocean, becoming Tropical Depression 12 on August 23, 2005(PAR.sbc.edu, 2006). The system intensified overnight to Tropical Storm Katrina (39 mi./hr., or 63 km/hr.) east of the Bahamas In 1970 Western United state of America was formed the Incident Command System. It control and address the many problems fires to the area such as: In 1970 382 was destroyed and eight people were killed in fire at Laguna (JEH.sbc.edu, 2007). Hurricane Katrina was one of the immense disasters in the geographical history. It caused huge disaster.

The Department of Homeland Security and more specifically the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) began a national effort at building a standardized system of response to major events and disasters in the USA.
