Abstract
Recent government initiatives envisage implementation of a universal electronic health record, by year 2014, by all health maintenance organizations. In enhancing healthcare quality in US and reducing related costs, Healthcare information systems are mainly perceived as the single most important factor. However, lack of appropriate security measures has been suggested by anecdotal evidences from recent years, which resulted in several data breaches, letting patients exposed to mental anguish, economic threats, and possible social stigma.
