Audience Analysis

Audience Analysis refers to the assessment of an audience at certain levels to ensure that the provided information is suitable and appropriate. The audience serves as the target market, and the efforts are targetted to meet their needs. But it is necessary to define the targetted audience first. Definition takes into account many specific, identifiable characteristics, such as culture, age, gender, etc. Following the defining process, the audience is profiled by the technical writers. The audience could be communicated visually, orally or even in a written form.

The significane of conducting an audience analysis can be gauged by the fact that a single mistake in judging and defining the targetted indivdual(s) could cause the firm a lot of loss of time, effort, money, and other important resources. It is therefore essential to avoid making such mistakes (Ewald, 1991).

The community profile that I selected to analyze was the Bryant Community Profile from the Bryant Area Chamber of Commerce.

Message's View of the Audience Based on the written Profile

The message viewed the audience as a growing one. A review of the profile shows that Bryant, Illinois has achieved its current degree of growth due to the high quality of life that its citizens enjoy. Several indicators on the profile show that opportunity for trade and engaging the local community exists. The chamber of commerce also promotes growth in Bryant. Audience and stakeholders have been defined through certain tools such as usergraphics and webographics. User graphics refer to the prevailing trend of usage of a particular product amongst a predefined population, whereas webographics denotes specific user data obtained through website cookies in order to gain information regarding the statistics of the web page, the profile of people that visit it, duration of their visits, their geographic location, and so on. Such information helps in identifying the user and analyzing the audience (Stuart, Sarow, & Stuart, 2007). The efforts made by the chamber of commerce to attract businesses into investing in the local economy are clearly visible through these definitions. The mission of the chamber of commerce is “to foster education, business and economic development and growth for serving Bryant Area Chamber of Commerce members, leading to the enhancement of quality of life for the betterment of the community” (Bryant Chamber of Commerce, n.d.). The chamber is a not-for-profit body formed in 1974 and has been through several changes since then. The chamber fosters economic and business growth through focusing on adaptation to change and social values. The Arkansas Department of Commerce supervises the Bryant City Chamber of Commerce.
