A General Theory of Love



Abstract

In this paper, we would analyse the aspects of love presented in, “A General Theory of Love”, by Lewis, Amini, and Lannon. Love is a feeling of intense and deep affection, sympathy and agreement and pointed at a person, animal, object, or to a concept, an ideal. It can be called from a different point of view (scientific), a pulse of our senses that pushes us towards a particular person. Love means a feeling of affection and of devotion to a being or thing, that drives those who seek to feel close, which can be physical, spiritual or even imaginary, with the object of that love, and adopt a behavior specific (more or less rational) accordingly. As a concept, it generally refers love most of the time a deep sense of affection towards a person. In this paper, we would analyse the aspects of love presented in, “A General Theory of Love”, by Lewis, Amini, and Lannon. In the end, it can be said that although the nature or essence of love is a subject of debate, we can clarify several aspects of this concept based on what love is.

Introduction

Love is a feeling of intense and deep affection, sympathy and agreement and pointed at a person, animal, object, or to a concept, an ideal. It can be called from a different point of view (scientific), a pulse of our senses that pushes us towards a particular person. Love means a feeling of affection and of devotion to a being or thing, that drives those who seek to feel close, which can be physical, spiritual or even imaginary, with the object of that love, and adopt a behavior specific (more or less rational) accordingly. Love in its various forms acts as a major factor in social relations and is central to the psychology human, making it also one of the most common themes in the art (Fromm, Erich, 2000).

The word love can refer to a wide variety of feelings, and behavior of states, ranging from a general pleasure associated with an object or activity ("I love chocolate," "love dance") to deep or intense attraction to one or more persons ("I love my husband," "I love my children"). This diversity of jobs and meanings of the word makes it difficult to define a united and universal, even comparing it to other states emotional. From this first meaning of the term in everyday language and the tradition has always been in the figurative sense, and is then generally used for the strongest form of turning to other living beings, things, activities or ideas. This general interpretation is understood as a love that is at once a metaphor for the expression of deep appreciation (Fromm, Erich, 2000).
