Introduction

There are many factors because of which academic institutions and faculty are facing challenges in maintaining the academic honesty. The most leading and major factor that is challenging the academic honesty is the increased and easy availability of connectivity and information technology (Dyer, 2010). The college student's current generation has been growing up with the technology and internet where sharing, social networking and collaborating are the elements of our daily life. Unfortunately, students have started to misuse these technologies while being in the classrooms and these technological advancements have encouraged unpermitted and unauthorized collaborations of the college students (Dyer, 2010). There is an increasing view of educators, directors, administrators and librarians that the college student's current generation might not be familiar with the proper way of writing. The current students of college do not understand the importance and worth of the academic honesty and integrity which is leading them violate academic policies unintentionally (Dyer, 2010). Academic honesty is required to be promoted for the continuation of maintaining the academic honesty in the institutions and classrooms. There is the necessity for including teaching's new styles and new technologies and educating students for maintaining the academic honesty in the institutions and classrooms. There are many strategies that are useful for the promotion of academic honesty (Dyer, 2010).

Academic honesty is the basic part and encompasses the great value for most of the academic institutions. Academic honesty is the basic constituent on which college, university and schools depend upon for its administrators, students and faculty in order to maintain, uphold and support the academic honesty (Wangaard & Stephens, 2011). Academic honesty is the foundation and keystone for all the educational institutions. Academic honesty survives when the faculty and students search for knowledge with honesty and with mutual trust and respect by accepting the responsibility for marinating the academic honesty within the institution. Faculty and students violate the policy of academic honesty which results in academic dishonesty and misconduct (Dyer, 2010). When the policies of academic honesty is violated then there will not be any reliance or trust on the accuracy, value or effectiveness of learning, teaching, public service activities or research of university. Cheating, facilitating academic dishonesty and plagiarism are the main factors of violation of academic honesty. Academic dishonesty destroys the mutual respect and trust as well as demoralizes those people who are following the regulations and weakens the higher education's credibility (Dyer, 2010). Thos students who gain their grades with the help of cheating, dishonesty or plagiarism weaken the cornerstones and the main values of academic institutions. These students achieve their credentials and degree with dishonesty and they do not put their honest efforts (Dyer, 2010).
