Proposition 36 should be made by informed and expert people rather than making it a societal democratic decision (McGeorge, 1970).

Is this a good way for a society to make decisions?

Prop 36 is indeed a positive approach of the government towards maintaining long term law and order in the state. This proposition tends to create maximum harmony in the criminal justice system by giving the chances at both ends. The categorization of the felonies is just not enough, but categorization of felons is also crucial to maintaining justice. The society will benefit in two distinct ways. It can save money spent on taking care of the criminal behind bars. Besides, that it gives a chance to the criminals to have sentence depending on the nature of the crimes. The serious crimes should never be ignored, and this proposition aims to achieve it (Parrillo, 2008) (McGeorge, 1970).

Many criminals do not seriously commit a crime and some other implications prevailing in their lives that make them commit the forbidden. In this regard, teenagers and adolescents offend the law in search of adventure. They sometimes make bets and repeat the same kind of offence in order to show their peers how daring they are. These non-serious or non-violent felonies have to be considered yet punishments do not serve the purpose. An estimated amount of $70 -$90 million in the next two decades yearly can be saved since the law will make sure the incarceration of few offenders for life (The Attorney General, 2012).

Everyone knows about the economic condition of the world that it has experienced the world's worst recession and still the struggle is prevailing for the survival. One should also keep in mind that the lack of circulation of money is causing several crimes to take place. We need to save money in every possible way, and this proposition will certainly save the amount that has to be incurred in the process of maintaining the well-being of an offender once is sent behind bar (Parrillo, 2008) (Parrillo, 2008).

Life sentence has embeds many implications as to whether it should be part of state law or should be banned. There is a group of people who believe that a life sentence has no advantage for the offender and the society. It just restricts the life of the offender by limiting his/ her movement in the society. The people in the society should also be aware of the conditions of the jail system. The treatment that offenders receive in jails is a big question mark on everyone's democratic sense of making decisions. If the ones going in jails on a life sentence are developing any kind of positive change in the society then certainly it is indeed a good move (McGeorge School of Law, 1970) (Parrillo, 2008).
