Impact of Teamwork on Organizational Performance

Thesis Statement

“The outcomes of teamwork have strong effects on organizational performance both in negative and positive terms”.

Introduction

A team is group of people formally constructed to interact at a high level. These people intensely work together in order to achieve their common goal. When the team is effective, they enable the team members with their experience to achieve the targets that were unable to achieve by people working individually or in other forms of group. Team is appropriate for carrying out the activities that are complex and it contains several interdependent activities. A group contains two or more people who have interactions with each other for achieving a specific goal or to meet a particular need (Delarue, et al., 2003). A group does not necessarily develop a team in itself. Team has members who generate synergies with the help of coordination and who have complementary skills. The coordination between team members allow everyone to maximize his/her strengths and overcome the weaknesses. It has been observed that the concept of teamwork is the widely used metaphors in organizational life (Eurofound, 2007). In this paper, we will study the effects of teamwork on organizational performance. This paper will study the degree of relationship between teamwork and organizational performance with respect to negative and positive relationships.
