ABSTRACT
Introduction: This research focuses on the universally recognized subject of globalization and use of internet in the field of English language teaching, more specifically, teaching English language to individuals who learn English as a foreign language.
Literature Review: In recent times, it has been observed that the internet is potentially used for language learning and teaching. Internet has contributed significantly towards language learning through web sources and interactive hypermedia functions. It attempts to initiate constructive learning results, which are less effective through classroom materials only. To efficiently incorporate internet sources into English as a Foreign Language writing and training, the researcher formulated and investigated the impact of globalization and internet on English language teaching in Lebanon.
Methodology: The research integrated both the qualitative and the quantitative method to analyze data that was collected through primary and secondary research methods. The data was gathered with the assumption that a significant number of respondents, categorized into two groups, would provide useful information to analyze and conclude that internet and globalization can significantly influences English language teaching in Lebanon. The two groups of research participants involved 50 students in third year majoring in English and 50 teachers from the Lebanese University.
Findings and Analysis: The results from the survey questionnaires were unique. The results showed that the participants used internet for communicating globally in countries other than Lebanon. The students reported that the experience of using internet allowed them to think critically and drastically learn innovative language skills. Facility of using internet also provided them a real time verbal communication with other participants. This study also provided a comfortable and flexible environment for the participants to enhance their English speaking skills.
Conclusion and Discussion: This research has examined the function of globalization and internet on English language teaching in Lebanon. Various impacts of globalization and internet use have been demonstrated in this study. There is an imminent requirement for culturally sensitizing and informing EFL students about their own position as communicators in the global world of technological advancement. In addition, EFL learners should also be informed about cultural significance of English as an international language.
