The IDS (Intelligence Decision System) is the tool that used for multicriteria decision analysis based on approach of ER (Evidential Reasoning). To understand the best classification, it needs to know about DSS taxonomy of Alter.

Alter's DSS taxonomy

DSS (Decision Support System) was the first wave that enabled users to take the decision on computer basis in mid 1970s. It was studies by the MIT student named Steven L. Alter. His taxonomy is a simple DSS's classification obtained in the research (CF, Alter, 1975). The taxonomy of the Alter consisted with fundamental decision support operations, which ranges to extremely model oriented from highly data-oriented. According to the idea of Alter the DSS system could be categorized with respect to perform generic operations, irrespective of functional area, kinds of the problem, or decision perspective. His first wave may experience recovering information, data analysis, and storing pre-specified data. It is also able to perform the operation to estimate the different types of decisions. The seven types of the DSS were proposed which are follows:

Data analysis system: It deals the change of data through computerized tools designed to a particular task or by more common operators and tools. For example, the analysis of the budget and analyzing the opportunities for investment.

File Drawer System: it gives access to the data storage. For example, it may include the inventory monitoring and reorder system.

Analysis Information System: It gives access to the small models and system of decision base database. For example, forecasting of the production and sales and planning.

Financial and accounting model based DSS: it predicts the possible outcomes of the certain actions. For example, in this system the profitability of the system can be calculated.

Representation model-based: it calculates the results of the actions with respect to simulation models, which involve the relationship. For example, the risk analysis can be calculated.

Optimization Model based: it shows the solution consistently that may help out in decision making. For example, scheduling the system.

Suggestion DSS based on logic models: In this types it performs the logical processing that suggests adequate tasks. For example, calculation of the insurance renewal rate.

Proposed IDS and Alter DSS taxonomy

The proposed IDS are capable to perform multiple operations such as Data analysis system, Suggestion DSS based, and representation model.

The ER approach is to deal with the both qualitative and the quantitative information with subjectivity and uncertainties. It is the combination of various concepts such as computer technology, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and decision sciences (Zhang, Yang & Xu, 1989, pp15). The ER approach runs on the basis of belief decision matrix. In this matrix, instead of the single value the distribution is adopted to show performance of alternative on a quality (Jantan, Hamdan & Othman, 2010, p3).
