Identifying Trends

Introduction

This assignment is about identifying and analyzing any trends of a resort. The resort operates with two ferry both have a height of 47 feet. These ferries transport the guests of resort form airport to the resort and vice versa. The resort also has two Boston whalers. These whalers have the responsibility of transporting guest to different beaches. This paper will find out any trends in the consumption of fuel or working days. There will also be a critical analysis all these trends.

Discussion

Trend analysis is a basic tool for identifying trends of past and incorporating those trends into future projections. This tool is basically used for identifying the trends of any company's financials. It is not restricted to that only (Authority, 2010). There are so many other uses of this tool. Company, like the resort in this case, can use this tool to keep track of their daily consumptions. This tool usually compares figures during a certain period (years, quarters, months or daily). This analysis converts the numeric figures into percentages to build a comparison base. This base is necessary for formulating a good trend analysis (Nohuddin, 2010).

There are two ferries in this case and three Boston Whalers. I have to identify trends in the fuel consumption of these vessels. The weekly data (fuel consumption) is given. We can draw a comparison of only second and third week of all three months (January to March). Because these three months have only two weeks in common in which the data is given for the whole week. For drawing a comparison, we need a whole week. We can compare half week with the full week.

We can draw a comparison for three weeks between January and February. These are the second, third, and the fourth week of these two months. We have complete weekly data for these two months to compare with each other.

Trends Identification of Ferries

The following tables and charts show the fuel consumption of ferries for the month of January and February. These trends show that Savannah Bay has consumed more weekly fuel than Sandy Bay except the fourth week (22 to 38). In this week, Sandy Bay has consumed more fuel. The other chart suggests that Sandy has more consumption in the month of February. The analysis will be presented in the later part of this paper.
