Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Incident of a patient diagnosed with Crohn's Disease
Code of Conduct
According to the American Medical Association (AMA)'s council of Ethical and Judicial Affairs, there are two things that a doctor or a medical practitioner has to ensure when discussing a patient or disclosing information regarding a medical case that may be sensitive and confidential. The first is moral practice and principles and the second is matters related to social policies. The term morality has high significance when it comes to medical practice. Similarly, the term unethical also has high importance in medicine.
The medical code of conduct is in according with the code issued by AMA in April 1977 and then amended in the years 1994 and 1996.
This assignment has been written, keeping the medical code of conduct in consideration and does not disclose information that can be sensitive or confidential. Additionally, to keep the patient's identity safe, he has been referred to as Mr. J.Introduction
The aim of this assignment is to reflect on a clinical incident arising from my role as a Clinical Practice Facilitator providing care for a patient with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) on a medical/gastroenterology ward. I will examine the strengths and limitations arising from the implications that were challenging in caring for a patient with IBD. In conclusion the main issues identified will be provided. Confidentiality and anonymity will be maintained throughout this assignment in accordance with the NMC Code Of Professional Conduct (2008), therefore the patient will be referred to as Mr. J. During my practice at one of the most reputable medical institutes in London, a patient was admitted in the gastric ward and we diagnosed him with Crohn's Disease. It is a form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Mr. J seemed extremely depressed due to his condition and did not seem to possess the will to fight his condition. Hence, my team and I took it upon ourselves to improve Mr. J's condition and help him improve physically as well as mentally. Not only did we suggest him medication that would prevent the occurrence of the disease at embarrassing moments, we also provided counseling and therapeutic advice to help the patient counter the effects of the disease.
