Introduction

Hypnosis has literally been excerpted from the Greek word “Hypnos” which means sleep. These days, in the modern era that human dwell unto; information dissemination has become so rapid and so fast that there is no bounding to the kind of learning that individuals have developed altogether.

However, with the detailed realization that individuals continue to make way for the challenges that have been undertaken, many costs have also risen with the modernity that encircles our society today. Although hypnosis is not that old a phenomenon, but the impacts and effects have been rather disturbing.

Background of Hypnosis and Hypnotism

Minting the phenomenon of Hypnosis and Hypnotism, James Braid discovered and unearthed the phenomenon in the year 1841. Following the footsteps of Franz Mesmer, who brought forth the rules and concept of Mesmerism (or animal magnetism), Braid brought forth the concept of hypnosis that changed the concept and opened an entirely new concept and avenue of learning in both philosophy and science (Lynn, Fassler & Knox, 2005).

Controversy with Hypnosis

Considering the concept and the ideology of hypnosis, controversy and a great blanket of suspicion has been connoted with hypnosis. At the time the theory was newly discovered, Braid had sketched and undertaken a detailed understanding and comprehension that regardless of the challenges and the problems that are associated with the problems that have been undertaken altogether.

However, with the passage of time, Braid further assessed and discussed the details and came out with intricate details that have been included, which clearly and vividly narrate the problems and situations that have been associated in the light of hypnosis.



Beliefs associated with Hypnosis

Researchers since long time have been working to highlight and identify the weightage upon how far and wide can a person make way to use hypnosis and disturb the flow of society. Many have criticized it as a mental condition that individuals experience and continue to post hypnosis as a medical condition (Spiegel, et.al, 2011).

Still others post it to be some form of cult and practice that has been undertaken. Random people around us have developed this form of creating and understanding the challenges and the problems that have been associated with certain taboos and a tradition that fights a battle uphill, even in times of today.
