Introduction

We know that our environment has had a huge impact because of our automotive way of life. Carpooling, travelling more on bicycles, better public transportation and car sharing are all contributing towards saving our earth and making it a greener place. Many of us need our cars and reaching our destinations without emitting some amount of carbon dioxide is not going to happen overnight.

Hybrid cars are playing a huge role in the attempt for a green transportation revolution. Hybrid cars these days are seen a lot on the roads and in the parking lots. They are getting common by the day. Hybrid cars are usually linked with lower emissions and better gas mileage. Although it is true that hybrid cars are better than their traditional counterparts, for the environment but the functioning of all the hybrid vehicles is not the same.

A hybrid car is one that uses more than one source of power to move. The hybrid cars that are available today are all gasoline electric hybrids. But the different hybrid cars include, full assist and mild hybrids. They work in several different ways according to the various goals and different environmental effects and benefits. The main differences in the variety of hybrids are explained on the basis of their drive trains. The cost differences also exist in different types of hybrid cars.

Full Hybrids/ Strong Hybrids

These types of the hybrid cars have the main characteristic of running either just on the electric motor or just on the gasoline engine. It is also possible to run theses on a combination of both. Best examples of this type of Hybrid cars include, Nissan Altima Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid and Toyota Prius

Assist Hybrids/ Power Assist Hybrid

The main characteristic of these hybrid cars is that we can not run them on the electric motor only. The electric motor is kind of used to allow stop start capabilities and regenerative braking and it is also a way for the enhancement of the gasoline engine. The best examples of these types of hybrid cars include, Satum Aura Hybrid and Honda civic hybrid.Mild Hybrids
