Trafficking in human beings is a modern form of slavery that is one of the fastest growing forms of crime throughout the world. Over the past year, approximately 1-2 million men, women, and children, worldwide were transported, sold, and held against their will in unsafe and abusive conditions (Stoltz 2007).
Human trafficking, known today as the "slavery of the century", is a violation against human rights because it contravenes the essence of the person: life, liberty, integrity and dignity (Kangaspunta 2003). Human trafficking is a form of slavery (sexual or labor) that involves abduction, deceit or violence.
