Introduction

In order for the company to effectively create a successful training and mentoring program, the company must align training needs with organizational achievement goals and strategies. An effective training program has the following characteristics:

Top Management must be committed to train and develop employees

Training should be linked to a business strategy

Organizational environments are feedback rich in that they stress continually improvement; promote risk-taking, and growth opportunities.

The training program that is developed through instructional design would be based on an assessment of needs to find out the form of training employees require (Noe, 2006). The basics of need assessment rely on three factors;

Analysis of the organization

Person analysis

Task analysis

New and Existing Employee Training and mentoring needs

The company will first need to assess training needs. There are four levels of analysis that help determine training needs. The levels include demographic analysis, individual analysis and organizational analysis. Company's Sales and Marketing department employees at various levels in the organization will need the training. Successful employees in the Sales and Marketing departments should be able to perform the following job functions:

• The salesperson job developments, maintains, and sustains client relationships.

• The salesperson will develop and implement sales processes to handle and manage customer relationships which include initial contact, client follow-ups, presentations, and closing procedures.

• The salesperson job includes contact record maintenance, sales status contact reports, sales projections, and sales quota ratios (Werner & DeSimone, 2009).

Optimal training should include sales, customer service, relationship building and maintenance, safety compliance, regulation, communication, and technical training. Company's existing employees will need to be interviewed in order to analyze and review their current positions for career development opportunities within Company, Inc. New employees will need to be trained and introduced to Company's organizational culture. New employees will need training on Company's processes and procedures and will need to be oriented to Company's work environment. Existing employee mentoring for new employees would be an effective training solution to promote growth and development. Supervisors and directors will need additional management training due to the employee expansion. They will also need to mentor new employees toward future growth within the company (Noe, 2006).

The training needs of new employees should be assessed, addressed, and implemented initially. Some of the newly hired employees will have most of the necessary foundational skills needed in order to perform their tasks properly; however, some will be in this type of work environment for the first time. This is the group that needs the most attention. Now that the assessment is complete and management knows where each employee stands, we can develop an individual training plan for each individual. The plan will be something that people will be able to refer back to realize the next step in their training. In addition to individual training there will be team training that every employee will be required to attend.
