Introduction

Wal-Mart is a retail store that has captured wide market in American and European countries. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., functions as the chain of discount departmental, largest grocery retailer store and warehouse. The company plan was initiated by Sam Walton in 1962. In 1972, it was incorporated in the New York Stock Exchange list and was branded as Wall-mart in 2008. According to the Forbes Global 2000 list, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. is considered as 18th largest public corporation and one of the largest public corporations as per the revenue generation, of United States of America. It is also considered as one of the largest employer around the world with almost 2million people working under the banner of Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., run around 8500 stores (approximately) in 15 different countries around the world, with different retail names.

Wal-Mart with increasing global competition in the market has made it difficult for managers and leaders to achieve their business goals and mission. Wal-Mart's competition requires effective management of tasks and business related activities. Reducing the number of workers through lay off and downsizing is the result of recession and economic issues in many countries. Wal-Mart's leaders that are able to resolve the issue and manage employees and information in a useful manner are those that are successful in the long run. Effective management of data and human resource need high dependence of information technology. Incorporation on information technology in the system of Wal-Mart, especially human resource departments result if efficient organization of data and work processes. Human resource consultant firms are coming up with programs and applications to help and guide Wal-Mart in the process of automation of their human resource department (HRTec, 2012). It is easier to manage and control with variety of methods presented by the system of information technology and data mining processes in Wal-Mart. To deal with the tough market situation and challenges, Wal-Mart believe in hiring diverse human resource belonging to different ethnic background and technical expertise so that they can function and succeed by employing the best out of the human resource lot available in the market.

Discussion

Wal-Mart information technology can increase firms competitiveness against it rivals by providing it with fast flow of useful information, may it be human resource or manufacturing. Management of Wal-Mart can make better and improved decisions which can decrease cost and improve work processes and methodology of organization against its competitors. It provides Wal-Mart manager with better decision making skill through analysis and interpretation of data and useful information presented by different technical programs of information technology. It has been suggested by research study that many multinational companies like Wal-Mart spend a lot of money in employing information technology for designing of its human resource management processes like records of employees, payroll records, compensation and benefits information processing.
