How Our Knowledge Of Human Cognition Improves The Design Of Computers

SUMMARY

In this paper, we have discussed how our knowledge of human cognition improves the design of computers. For this, we have discussed many aspects of the Human computer interaction (HCI), cognitive models, constructivism, interface design, cognitive psychology. We have expressed a number of features hypermedia environment, which in principle we consider potentially positive and favorable to design. An environment in which students can develop their own knowledge, but ultimately, if you really an educational application or does not contribute to meaningful learning depends on how you make use of them in the design and how it implemented in classroom practice.

INTRODUCTION

In this paper, the topic, which is discussed, is about how our knowledge of human cognition improves the design of computers. For this assignment, several cognitive perspectives ranging from short to long timescales are used. It also includes material from the lectures. We have Adopt the Invent it Write approach to develop this report, and we will follow the 'Assessed coursework guidelines' for this paper (Peter, 2010: 1).

Throughout this paper, we attempt to explore the interrelationship between cognitive psychology and the interdisciplinary field of human-computer interaction. We study the evolution of human thinking model called computer metaphor and the influence of cognitive psychology in the design of interfaces. Special interest is devoted to the analysis of hypermedia interfaces and possibilities that they can have on education within constructivist theoretical frameworks.

BODY

Using the invent in right approach for this assignment it states that, for a particular writing, there are four main stages which are, Define and plan, Generate ideas, Analyze ideas and lastly write effective prose.

Define and planning part was done in the introduction section. For generate ideas, I have used these Key ideas: hypermedia interfaces, HCI, cognitive models, constructivism, interface design, cognitive psychology. In this body part, I will now analyze these key ideas which will help me to formulate my report in the flow (Baecker & Grudin et al, 1995: 21).

When first approached the area of HCI, we are interested in studying the relationship of it with cognitive psychology, thinking about the possible educational implications that may arise from this relationship. On the other hand, it seems important to follow the evolution of hypermedia interfaces for the computer and try to discover what relationship these environments may have the teaching-learning environments, taking account of educational research oriented constructivism and meaningful learning.

Cognitive Psychology HCI-Relations

Cognitive psychology is one of the many disciplines that contribute to the area of human-computer interaction for both the design and evaluation of interfaces, to illuminate theoretical aspects of research.

In fact, relations are mutual. On the one hand, computer specialists turn to psychology as a guide for the design of increasingly interactive interfaces, where the sensation, perception, motor control and cognitive aspects in general, have much impact. Furthermore, the conception of the computer itself, gave rise to the "computer metaphor", ie, a model of human thought that draws ...
