3.1 Theories Strengthen the Health and Social Care Practice

Anti discriminatory practice, learning from experience and professionalism theories plays an effective and efficient role in supporting health and social care practice. Values, ideology and power are the 3 major concepts for improving practices in health and social care. The theory which is based on individuality, diversity, respect and equality plays an important and indispensible role in practicing health and social care in our society. Moreover, the theory of social care must also be enhanced in order to provide improved health and social care to the patients.

Anti-discriminatory theory

Discrimination in practicing health and social care must be avoided in order to ensure high quality care to the patients. Many health and social care practitioners discriminate between people on the basis of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender or their social status. The theory of anti discrimination helps in avoiding the differences that can come across in providing health and social care to the patients. Many other theories strengthen the practice of health and social care. Providing human and staff development and growth will play an effective role in strengthening the practices of health and social care. Managing change and loss, managing exclusion and isolation, overcoming unemployment, poverty, poor health, lack of education and disablement will underpin the health and social care. Practices of anti discrimination theory will be helpful in underpinning the health and social care (Anonymous, n.d., p.3).

Behavioural theory

Behavioural theory must be implemented in enhancing the practices of health and social care. Behavioural theory is related to the provision of high quality management to the customers or patients. Behavioural theory gives the bridge between the practitioner and biomedical technologies. Thus, the implementation of this theory while practicing health and social care helps in improving the health of the public.

According to the principles of support, health and social care practices are made in such a way that ensures the care of individuals related to all the needs of health and social care. These theories support and encourage every individual to make decisions in accordance with their experience of their requirements and needs. These theories enable individuals to evaluate their needs by effective communication and provide evidence based information in order to manage their needs of self care. These theories also enable and support individuals to build up skills in self care. According to the theories, the worker workers facilitate and support individuals in developing self management/self care skills. These theories advise individuals the way of accessing support networks and also the way of participating in the development, evaluation and planning of services. These theories enable and support risk taking and risk management to maximize choice and independence. Thus, theories of support are implemented to assure that patients are cared for in the practice of Health and Social Care (Skills for Health, n.d., Pp.12-13).
