Abstract

This paper discusses the concept of human resource management and the definitions of human resource management. The typical definitions of human resource management include the management of workforce through recruiting, selecting, hiring and firing of the employees. The human resource management in the international era is not confined to only the recruitment or dismissal of the employees. It provides training and development opportunities to the potential employees of the organization. The employees are motivated through the learning and development procedures and they become more productive. It helps the organization in achieving its objectives and goals.

The concern of international students regarding the management of workforce diversity can also be handled by the human resource department of an organization. A diverse workforce can provide several advantages to the organization. The ultimate objective that could be achieved through the incorporation of workforce diversity management in the human resource department of the organization is the promotion of strategies and procedures that could help the organization in reducing their costs and enhance their operations. The modifications in the definition of human resource management include the incorporation of disclosure of benefits and packages to the potential employees.

What does Human resource Management actually represent?

Introduction

The world of business is changing with an enormous speed at an extraordinary rate (Swanson & Holton, 2001). This is the reason that companies and individuals are striving for the best not only in terms of operations but also in terms of human capital (Swanson & Holton, 2001). The main focus of human resource management in an organization is to develop a superior and talented workforce. In this way, organization and individuals both are able to accomplish their objectives and goals. The adaption of human resource management practices provides motivation and skills to the organization and employees through which they can provide unparallel services to customers (Albrecht, 2000).

This paper aims to critically analyze the various attempts of creating a universally agreed Human resource management concept. It describes various factors and aspects that represent the concept of human resource management in an organization. The paper attempts to identify the answer to the question that what does human resource management actually represents? There are several definitions of human resource management. These definitions represent different ideas and concepts of human resource management.

This research will evaluate the various definitions and concepts of human resource management acquired by different regions and different organizations. It explores a clear understanding of the definition that most clearly reflects the understanding of international students. There are some differences among the international students regarding the concept of human resource management. This paper discusses the issues in international perspective of HRM and their incorporation in the modern definition of the concept.
