Introduction

This assignment compares and contrasts two organizations, Sleepeasy Hotels and Oticon. The assignment will talk about the organizations' design and structure. This will include the hierarchy of management that they are following in their organization. It will also include the design and structure that the companies follow in their activities. The number and type of employees in the organization will also be a part of the assignment. Further, the assignment will discuss the organizational culture that is employed in each of the two organizations. The importance of organizational culture in general, as well as, in the respective organizations will also be a point of discussion in the essay.

Sleepeasy Hotels

Sleepeasy is a hotel chain which has its target customers as the business travellers, as well as, the city breakout tourists. This is not large sized hotel, though it has chains at some places. The market that is targeted by Sleepeasy Hotels is a competitive one. There are a number of competitors of Sleepeasy, therefore, to retain its customers, Sleepeasy has to compete on its price. There are a number of employees of Sleepeasy, however, this number is not as large as it would have been in any other hotel. The staff at Sleepeasy Hotels is employed to fulfil certain responsibilities and functions. The organizational design and structure of Sleepeasy is as follows.

Oticon

Oticon is the world's second largest hearing aid manufacturer. It is situated in Denmark outside the capital Copenhagen. It was founded in 1904 by Hans Demant, whose wife was hearing impaired. Oticon is particularly well known for their loose management style referred to as "Spaghetti Organization". The company is a subsidiary of the William Demant Holding Group (Martin, pp. 45-47, 2009).

Oticon has branches in various countries, of the world. Oticon has competitors like Siemens and Phillips. The company has a large number of subsidiary organizations in many countries of the world. The company is referred to as being a subsidiary organization. The company used to be very bureaucratic. Being a large organization, with many subsidiaries, the company has a large number of employees and follows a definite hierarchy.

Organizational Design and Structure of Sleepeasy Hotels

The Sleepeasy Hotels have a hotel manager in all of its chains. The role f the hotel manager is to make sure that day to day to day activities are completed timely and in the best possible manner. The Sleepeasy Hotels have made a list of standard operating procedures, which all the members in all the chains have to comply. There are no sub contractors for any functions of the company. Each and every function of the company are done by the company itself. People are hired in the company through the human resource department of the company.
