Hr Road Map To CSR

Introduction

This report gives an insight into how human resource management can contribute to the corporate social responsibility objectives of The Humphreys Group. It demonstrates how important it is to have HR as a vital player in the success of the company by influencing its strategy and culture (Beatty, Ewing & Tharp, 2003). Having HR influence on the strategy and culture of the company will have an effect on the corporate image of the company, which will allow it to achieve its social responsibility objectives. These responsibilities have to be maintained; because they affect the attitudes and opinions of the company's stakeholders, and shareholders.

Discussion

The ever growing imbalance of income being distributed to managers and CEOs in other companies has increased over the years; therefore it is crucial for The Humphreys Group to avoid the same scrutiny. Tying pay to performance is called agency theory, but this theory is flawed, which is why it is best to correctly control the distribution of massive salaries of the top managers and CEOs to avoid detrimental behavior that can affect the firm. According to Frey & Sterol (2005) managers have boosted their short term profits rather than focusing on helping the firm with long term opportunities, as well as avoiding paying dividends to shareholders (Turban et al. 1996. 658).

Compensation ethics

This behavior within an organization makes the managers and CEOs look like criminals. Particularly due to evidence suggesting that higher amounts of performance pay is linked to fraud and accounts fiddling, furthermore the dishonest behavior could quite possibly filter through the company to the lower levels (Turban et al. 1996. 658)

One way for HR to control the amount of compensation pay managers receive would be to remove the system altogether. It is possible for HR to suggest this because the interests of customers and investors come before that of managers (Beatty, Ewing & Tharp, 2003). But because doing this would cause problems and demoralize managers this is not the best option available. The alternative option would be to enforce honesty within the organization by encouraging whistle-blowing. This is a fantastic way of deterring behavior that would put the company in a bad light. Although it is known that whistle-blowing is not favorable among employees for fear of the consequences, therefore, HR's role to create an environment that encourages openness among employees, which would also gain the trust of customers and investors (Mossholder et al, 2011. 33).
