HR Function

Abstract

Today's business environment is characterized by rapid and continual change. The business environment change will cause company trouble. The organization will meet several environmental challenges such as technological challenges, economic challenges, and globalization and so on. Human resource management (HRM) is on managing people within the employer- employee relationship (Trevelyan, 1998, 37-44). HRM involves four main functions; there are acquisition, development, rewards and maintenance. When the organization meet environmental challenges, these human resource management (HRM) functions will play an important role, they can assist an organization to achieve it strategic objectives in such an environment.

If a firm wants to remain competitive and successful, it needs and must, invest into continuous and effective training and improve the development of the individual employee. The management must manage the individuals in line with the company values and objectives so to achieve the results the company required. Thus the relationship between training and development and managing within performance management principles is essential for the success of an organization.

Overview of The HR

Human Resource management is defined as a strategic and coherent approach to the management of an organizations most valued assets - the people working there who individually and collectively contribute to the achievement of its objectives.”HRM is very important in today's world and it has to be adapted and embedded in every organizations strategy. It is important as much as any department in an organization and it has to play an important role within the organization. If the HRM department is just created just for the sake of having a HR department, then the organization will fail to enjoy the benefits that arise from this management concept. A HRM department has to be active within the organization and put forward any concerns where they are needed.

Role of HR

Human resource management (HRM) is on managing people within the employer- employee relationship. Specifically, it involves the productive use of people in achieving the organization's strategic business objectives and the satisfaction of individual employee needs.

HRM involves four main functions; there are acquisition, development, rewards and maintenance. Each function contains several activities that they can represent the core of HRM (Lawler, 2003, 396-404).

Changes involve external changes and internal changes. The external changes come from several sources: changing technologies, economic cycles, and globalization and so on. Internal changes involve crisis, new information, reduced performance, lack of talent, and new organizational structure (Lawler, 2003, 396-404). These changes influence the ways in which managers and HR department to meet their objectives. (Noe et al. 2004 pp.39)

Human resource development activities focus on the acquisition of the attitude, skills and knowledge required for employees to learn how to perform their jobs, improve their performance, prepare themselves for more senior positions and achieve their career goals. Human resource development involves performance appraisal, training and development and career planning and development.
