CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Global Organizations have been spending a significant amount of time of money trying to assess the risks that their organizations are prone to. Many companies have understood the necessity of taking preventive measures in order to protect the overall organization from any possible risks. However one major shortcoming regarding security systems has been their failure to fulfill their purpose rendering the organization at a potential risk. The most widely acclaimed reason behind such issues arising is due to the lack of understanding regarding security systems. Lack of understanding can lead to greater problems and a fair amount of money also goes to waste. Hence there is a greater need for thoroughly planning security changes needed within an organization in order to ensure the system meets the needs to the organization. Information technology organizations face a greater challenge against threats since online security threats are numerous and need to be dealt with in advance in order to avoid any possible breaches within the organization. This dissertation focuses on understanding how upper management can be convinced regarding security upgrades within the organization, which are planned strategically and meet their ultimate goal.
Background of Study
Organizational security practices have long been exalted in the academic and practitioner literatures (Wright, 2001; Tomarken & Waller, 2005; Thomas & Loader, 2000; Shi, 2007).
