It has different types of impact on a person's behavior. A large portion of the people's emotional and social development is taking place while on the internet. Social media has positive as well as negative effects on the social and personal behaviors of people.

People can stay in touch with more people by having an expansion in their social circles on the platform of social media. Social networking websites have become a modernized way of making new friends. Social media helps the otherwise socially awkward people to learn to communicate with other people. It can help the introverts to become expressive and communicative. It makes people come out of their shells and have their social skills developed. The people who are shy enough to face others in face-to-face contacts learn communication skills through social networking websites (Trio Projects, n.d.). Social mobility has become easier for the users of social networking websites. Through social mobility, a person is able to change his social group in order to move horizontally or vertically up in the social hierarchy.
