ABSTRACT

This particular research study is conducted to examine the importance of a quantity surveyor within the current recession crisis. This research study aimed at examines how a quantity surveyors role has changed since the recession started materials within the UK construction industry. To accomplish this research aim mixed method research design is selected. Questionnaire and interview survey is conducted with the quantity surveyors of UK construction industry to examine their perception about the current recession crisis and its impact on the construction industry. The quantity surveyors of UK construction industry minimize the potential distribution of the default risk and to identify activities that add value to the project. The quantity surveyors have a wide range of skills along with the traditional quantity surveying skills to overcome the bottle necks of construction projects. The findings of this particular research study indicate that the quantity surveyors have a key role in improving the efficiency of UK construction industry.

Background of the Study

In the United States of America the recession had started in the year 2007 till 2009. The recession had lasted for 1 year and 6 months, unemployment figures had decreased down 10% and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rate had steeped -5.1%. The cause for the United States recessions had been determined by a fall in mortgage crisis which affected the housing bubble. The aftermath of related to the falling housing assets lead to the global financial crisis, expected also in the UK. Many of the US financial institutions had collapsed due to this crisis.
