The performance appraisal helps the organization in achieving the strategic objectives by motivating employees and improving their performance. The records of employees is maintained using the appraisal systems, which helps in setting their salaries, wage structure and compensation packages. It also helps in determining the strengths and weaknesses of the employees, so that right job and tasks are assigned to right employees. This will help in achieving the organization objectives and strategic goals (Aguinis, 2009).

Discussion and Analysis

The performance appraisal should not be a stressful experience which creates friction between the employer and the employee. It should be a positive process where both parties play an important role. Performance evaluations will be effective only to the extent that the executives believe. They must agree with the human resources department regarding the business objectives, evaluation methods and the importance of performance evaluation. Companies must consider their evaluation system as a key asset for their activities. Assessments may not be fully valid if the managers do not know how to evaluate employees and do not receive adequate training to perform this task.

The direct supervisor plays a key role in the process. It occupies a position of mentor, he gives advice to the employee continuously and analyzes its errors, it motivates the employee and ensures that it remains on track to success. The success of this collaboration between the supervisor and the employee relies to a great extent on the quality of their relationship as well as the ability of the supervisor as communicator, leader, motivator, etc. ...
