ABSTRACT
In the history of human economic development poverty has been persistent. Since ancient time poverty has been associated with delinquency. The subject of poverty had been a serious problem not only in the U.K but worldwide. In recent years, poverty has been the focuses on in U.K as the recession has hit hard and consequently a radical increase in the crimes has been examined as an option for people to buy essentials that meet their basic requirements significant for their survival in the society. The research conducted in this dissertation focuses on the correlation between poverty and crime to determine whether poverty has an effect on crime in the U.K. The recent trend of unemployment, economic changes and globalization due to recession is pushing many people especially the young people in UK to exploit the social and political system of the system to meet their requirement and satisfy their families. For any society youth plays a significant role in the overall development and growth of the society and especially the economic system. In the recent years, many young people have been found committing crimes and other illegal activities to satisfy their requirements. Hence, in this research study, the link and correlation between poverty and increased youth crimes has been studied in depth to explore whether this connotation is right or wrong.

Crime is an on-going issue around the world and particularly in the U.K as the years have gone on crime has increased. Global recession has impacted the overall stability of the society and economies across the globe. Mougeot (2006) reflected the recent trend of crimes particularly committed by the youth has been due to recession that has hit the major portion of UK subsequently increasing the rate of unemployment, joblessness, and crimes (n.d).
