ABSTRACT

The major purpose of this dissertation was to investigate the tourist behavior towards the booking of four star hotel rooms in London. There was a need to assess the useful sources related to tourist industry in UK and their overall behavior in the entire country. The statistics were collected of the past several years that indicated positive results of the tourism industry in UK. It was seen that there are several variables which have a positive impact on the tourism industry in UK. However, there is a need to further invest in this industry in order to serve the large number of tourists who frequently visit this country. Therefore, these were the major issues related to research study that was discussed in detail.

1.1 Overview of the topic

London is one of the most visited cities in the world. In terms of international visitor numbers it is comparable with some Far East destinations such as Hong Kong and Singapore but significantly outperforms other European cities. In 2010 the capital received more international visitor spend than the remainder of the UK regions put together and visitor volumes in London rose whilst falling in the remainder of England, Wales and Scotland. Nevertheless, the number of jobs supported by tourism in the capital remains around 7 per cent beneath its pre-recession peak.
