On September 15, 1830, at Little Dancing Rabbit Creek, Chiefs of Cherokee Nation and representatives of U.S. met to discuss impact of the bill recently passed by Congress of U.S. This bill, with all same good purposes of those today who believe they know better on how to carry out Indians' lives, allowed for removal of all Indian peoples to West of Mississippi River. The Whigs Tecumseh
During presidency of Andrew JACKSON (1829-37), the sharp bipolarization occurred again in nation's politics. Of Scots-Irish descent, Jackson hated English, and he was, in turn, as thoroughly disliked by New Englanders, who thought him violent and barbaric. He made enemies in South, as well, when in 1832 South Carolina, asserting superior STATE RIGHTS, attempted to declare null and void within its borders tariff of 1828 (see NULLIFICATION). The Monroe Doctrine
In Presidential Election of 1816 DR James Monroe easily triumphed over last Federalist Presidential candidate, Rufus King from NY. The lack of party rivalry caused the Boston newspaper to dub time "Era of Good Feelings." Monroe continued to support Madison's programs. (Berkin p.12)
Foreign policy during this period was placed in capable hands of John Quincy Adams, who served as Secretary of State (1817 - 1825) and was the skillful diplomat and negotiator. JQ was an expansionist who pushed to obtain fishing rights for US in Atlantic, political separation from Europe, and peace.
Louisiana Purchase XYZ Affair
With constitutional government still in its infancy, what was at stake was nothing less than power of precedence. In Jefferson's first term, he had secured Louisiana Purchase agreement with Napoleonic France. This action that was vehemently opposed by Federalists, who saw newly gained lands being carved into more Democratic-Republican states, as Federalists only had control over commerce-driven New England (Thomas 7). Another issue behind 1804 election was that of Federal reappointments. President Madison had recommended what was called "Midnight Appointments" after he had lost election in order to keep workers in Federal government almost completely Federalist. (Berkin p.12)
The Corrupt cut-rate- Elections of 1824 & 1876
The major participants in elections of 1824 and 1876 were Henry Clay, John Quincy Adams, and Andrew Jackson were major participants in election of 1826. Each candidate in this election was of Republican Party originally founded by Jefferson. In election of 1826 major participants were Rutherford B. Hayes and Samuel J. Tilden. Hayes was of Republican Party and Tilden of Democratic Party. In both these elections central issues involved election itself. During elections popular vote showed voice of people to be in favor of President while electoral vote was not in favor of that president. As the result presidents who won popular vote lost presidency due to electoral votes. (Berkin p.12)
