Considering interior furniture design to be inspiring in terms of domestic interior for the period of post modernism, this paper presents a report placing elements of interior furniture design period of post modernism within a social and political context. The so-called Post-Modernity of interior furniture design is the socio-cultural and aesthetic stage of post-industrial capitalism. Theorists and academics have different conceptions of the term, especially in defining the beginning of this process. Although many consider the postmodern begin around the middle of the twentieth century, a landmark initial course would be the years of 1960 and 1970.

One of the major factors of postmodern interior furniture design is the emergence of new media and ideologies. It is a historical moment in which the paradigms of modernity and rationalism in design methodology become relative. The modernist rationalism is not abandoned, but becomes contested and reformed freely.

To understand Post modernism we should understand first Modernity, which gave birth to Post modernism, was both economic and cultural. In economic terms, it is correlative to industrialization, mechanized technical system that prevailed from 1860 to 1970 (these dates are “fuzzy”, of course). This technical system has an economic equilibrium based on the typical cycle that has been called “Faradism”. Factories required a large workforce to perform repetitive tasks and standardized, and the equilibrium in the labour market was endogenous principle, except in the 30s which produced a crisis of confidence in the productive apparatus which altered expectations and caused an excess of savings (Jencks, 2007).

The principle of modern art can be summarized as follows: whereas previously the artwork had to obey the rules established by tradition and that they were therefore outside the modern work of art must be itself the rules to which it obeys. Although the era of modernity was marked by wars in which mechanized technical system supplied weapons of unprecedented efficiency, though the labour force has been brigaded to excess, the progress of material well-being that procured industrialization (automobile, telephone, housing, household equipment, cinema) and the general rise in living standards, coupled with the operation of the social ladder, have created a climate of optimism throughout this time, it was believed in progress, education, social security, etc.

Postmodernism can also be described on basis of both social and political context. In economic terms, the mechanized technology is gradually being ousted from the 1960s and especially in 1970, another technical system that characterizes the production automation. A mass production of standard products follows the diversification to balance the labour market follows rampant unemployment, because automation eliminates jobs at the same time it lowers production costs (Morrison, 1997). Moreover, despite having been a staggering increase and widespread industrialization and Standardization in the processes of construction and planning of the urban environment during the '30s.

To better address them, we emphasize the concept of modern home as well as a series of feelings that come with it - as the privacy, domesticity, comfort, identity, good taste, welfare, ...
