Introduction

Police department has greatly important for any nation, therefore hiring and testing process of police applicant must be strong enough and bring those candidates into the police department which are most appropriate and perfect one. It has been recognized that the traditional selection and recruitment practices no more sufficient and adequate for recognizing neither evaluating those candidates who will be leading their agencies in future (Krieble, 1994). There is need to change the philosophy, and adopt such policies which adopt new responsibilities and roles so that the ultimate change would be accomplished by desired qualities and abilities for candidates. Those important elements that we are needed to be focused more at the time of hiring and testing the applicants for police.

Screening & Hiring Process

Recruitment and selection is may not be the long term process but it is the base of long term process. Police is the department through which people feel comfortable and because of this department society can be considered the safest place. Police department is not like the other departments of law and enforcement agencies. They are the primary source for any civilian to protect them from harm, crime, riots, panic, and some other situation which put the civilians into the problem.

That is why in selection of applicant for police department we need to become more focus and determine the major areas for complete screening them. For hiring and testing of any organization may not be such critical but for the Police department it is very crucial to adopt and maintain very strong process for testing and hiring the candidates (Miller et.al, 2008).

Recruit Investigation Unit

This unit refers for obtaining the information about candidates and their background, investigators would recognize the candidate either suitable for the police department or not. This process helps in the hiring process and may take place at the time of screening. Not only background investigation can be taken place but there are certain other investigation must need to be considered such as pre-employment screening which would be processed by Human Resources and Occupational Health Division. Punctuality of candidate is very essential during screening process.

Orientation Session

This session refers to give the information to candidates about the application process. All the application packets should be given to all the candidates and also acknowledging them about the filling procedure of application form.
