Introduction

HIPAA Privacy Rule established national standards to protect the confidentiality and security of individual health information from unreasonable disclosure. Privacy Rule establishes the conditions for the use or disclosure of protected health information. The Office for Civil Rights in DHHS is responsible for implementing and ensuring compliance with confidentiality rules related to compliance with the procedures and sanctions or penalties for failure.
