Abstract

Time publication might have summed it best with the basis behind 'You', this years Time's individual of the Year. The Time authors said that, “in 2006, the World Wide Web became a device for conveying simultaneously the small contributions of millions of people and making them matter” (Grossman, 2006). Well over a decade ago the realization that expertise was permitting facts and figures and facts and figures to move from a snails pace to quantum levels became so apparent that our governmental leaders sensed it necessary to proceed in its citizen's best interest. The reason of this abstract is to enquire the employee security, wellbeing and welfare regulation commonly renowned as HIPAA, the Health protection Portability and responsibility proceed of 1996. While exploring the impetus of HIPAA's origins and purpose an attempt will be made to illustrate the Act's relevance to my work environment.

In our ever-changing world expertise extends to override and affect everything. Similar to today, the early 1990's were a time when lawmakers acknowledged the task of considering technologies impact on our resides. One influence that became evident was kind in which the healthcare commerce was evolving. Health insurance had habitually been a warm topic. Technology was enabling the commerce to alter hard copy data; persevering documents, x-rays, etc. into electronic formats. Medical protocols and methods were being simplified and technology was the going by car force. Records that allowed doctors to know and recognize preexisting conditions and relative information could now be accessed immediately to allow for faster diagnoses and treatment (U.S. Department of Labor, 2004). The advancements furthermore supplied a quicker approval method for needed testing by heath care administration companies so patients get what they need faster. Even though there were advantages provided by the technological the industry also experienced new problems and risks. In response to these the government acted to resolve issues and provide greater protection for the American people by passing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Body: Discussion and Analysis

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a federal law which was originally passed in 1996. The Act was designed to reform the health insurance system in the United States and simplify administrative processes within the health care industry. Along the way other provisions were supplemented pertaining to privacy and security. The Department of Public Health and Human Services' first passage of the legislation was directed at simplifying wellbeing care administration by mandating standards in the processing, maintaining and moving patient data. The department furthermore identified that larger privacy and command of the facts and figures held by the various associations should be established. As healthcare data becomes digitized and this information becomes more easily transferable the potential for misuse of the data becomes more likely. Many privacy advocacy groups in over the business lobbied to boost the security and limit access to medical data. Cases of discrimination founded on medical situation were evolving more prevalent.
