Background and Purpose

The hip replacement may be needed because it causes pain, limited movement of the patient, or to reduce wear and tear of the patient. The patients whose joints are damaged by arthritis or any form of injury, prefer using Hip replacement.

Surgery is usually recommended only when nonsurgical treatments such as physical therapy, medications or using physical aids like a cane, do not help reduce pain or improve mobility. Parts of the artificial hip can be made of metal, ceramic or plastic.
