Hip-hop includes various dance styles, but the difference lies only in the technique. Like a chameleon, Hip Hop dance is always changing in response to its environment. In the last three decades, Hip Hop dance has reflected, and adapted to, the collisions of technology and culture that shape the contemporary American scene. In order to understand how Hip Hop dance began in the inner city streets of African American and Latino neighbourhoods, and developed into a multimedia performance art embraced by a global, mainstream audience, it is essential to look at the contributions of both African American men and women (Rivera, 2003, pp.55).
These artists followed a path similar to one taken by their forefathers in creating Jazz and Tap dance hundred years earlier. Tap and Jazz dancers were so successful that movie musicals adapted their style, spreading African American dance throughout the United States and ultimately around the world. Today, music videos play a similar role in bringing Hip hop culture to an international audience. At the same time, Hip Hop dance has changed to appeal to mainstream viewers who only know the culture through film and video, over the last twenty years, Hip Hop has transformed into a multimedia performance art that reflects our technological society while continuing to mirror the hopes and dreams, and fears, of the African Americans who invented it (Potter, 1995, Pp.78).

Hip-hop is one of the most accessible, vibrant and pop styles of modern dance. This dance, which became a cult classic, has turned into a whole stratum of modern culture, which includes various components: music, graffiti, a certain style of clothing. Having being born in the late 70s and with the advent in 1981, the international dance organization (IDO), has evolved from a simple street dance competition in the dance discipline. Hip-Hop, as a rule, danced on the eighth note, with a characteristic bounce and based mainly on the various jumping movements. Modern competitive hip-hop today is a bright and exciting spectacle, and is the most popular dance styles around the world, in which are held the World Championships and World Cups (Kugelberg, 2007, pp.12).
