History Of Hip Hop Music

Hip hop, also known as “Rap”, is a very famous and well known music style generated from the USA. Hip hop music is well known all over the world. Hip hop music consist of 2 parts; the first part is rapping and the 2nd component is record scratching. These 2 parts combine together with graffiti and break-dance to form hip hop, these four things are the core components of hip hop music (Watkins 03). The hip hop music was originally developed during a cultural movement by the Hispanics and the African American youth during the start of 1970's, and the word “Rap” was invented in 1960's, which means conversation in slang language. There are 2 periods of hip hop in the history, the 2st one is from 1970-1985 and the golden period of hip hop which lasted in between 1985 and 1993. The golden period of started when the hip hop music entered the main field of music and combined with the musicians of the East and West coast.

The originating place for hip hop music is African part of USA and the western part of Africa. During the 1960's, hip hop singers like Nurridin, The Last Poets, etc played a magnificent role in the development and growth of Hip Hop music . The hip hop was developed in the Bronx, where a lot of soul music was played all the time at parties. The people started realizing that this technique of playing music was much more entertaining and enjoyable and so hip hop was spread all over Jamaica, and when the Jamaicans came in the U.S.A. they also spread their music in the New York and thus hip hop gained popularity in the USA.
