High Quality Physical Education and Coaching Session
Introduction
Physical education plays a vital role in the overall edcuation of a student. A well planned and effectively carried out physical education program can prove to be very beneficial for children as well as adolescents. It consists of enhanced levels of self-discipline, physical fitness, skill develpoment, self-confidence, and support of information aquired from other subject areas. There has always been a correlation between physical/emotional health and physical activity (examples of emotional health include less risk-taking behavior, better grades, lower experiences of depression, and better relationship with others). Higher rates of diabetes, heart disease, obesity, hypertension, and some cases of cancers (all of which can cause illness or even premature death) were found in inactive adults who had almost no physical activity in their lifestyle. Physical education (P.E.) must be provided on a daily basis to ensure that there is enough teaching time and lots of opportunities for students to gain knowledge in addition to being physically active.
High quality P.E. programs build up motor skills (movement), knowledge, self-management skills, health-related physical fitness, and safety skills. P.E. classes should be progressive and build up on learning from previous sessions. Every student should be kept active during the class (most of the time) and must be presented with a range of enjoyable physical activities, that are both non-competitive and competitive in nature. A P.E. program, that is of high quality, puts emphasis on provision of opportunities for students to cooperate with others, assume leadership, accept responsibility (of behavior, actions, etc), build confidence, and enjoy themselves.
P.E. insructors should be (suitably) qualified for teaching P.E as well as maintaining safety. P.E standards outline the creation of a well balanced P.E. program that is a combination of fitness activities, games, motor skills, and concepts. The 'national Standards for Physical Education' provide a structure/standard for creating a proper P.E. program. It helps schools design a P.E. program that boosts development of a student's cognitive skills and psychomotor, nourishing and development of physical fitness, as well as encouragement of a lifelong physical activity. it includes benchmarks for every grade level. For instance, the set of standards related to 'grade six' recommends that hand and foot dribbles should be performed by the students, while thwarting the opponent's attempt to steal the ball. It also provides P.E. objectives for students outside of school (i.e. it displays an active lifestyle, physically) and suggests methods to judge students according to the suggested standards.
Several states have used these standards of P.E. (National Standards) to develop their own state standards which helps to create quality physical education programs, that help students remain active and healthy, by providing them a diverse range of physical activities (and as a result - healthy lifestyles that in turn promote physical education).
Discussion
It is not easy to devise up a P.E. plan, it should be crafted very carefully and is subject to changes if the instructor finds that some improvements can be made (himself or through ...
