Chapter 4: Data Analysis

Methodology

This study approached the collection of data using multi-method strategy, or a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. In general, the quantitative approach has the facts, and is used when researchers wish to acquire the statistical truth. According to Gall, Gall and Borg (2003), a quantitative study suggests that the social environment is an objective reality that is relatively constant across time and settings, while the qualitative research suggests that individuals construct a reality in the form of meanings and interpretations, and that These designs are generally temporary and situational.

The dominant methodology in the quantitative approach to describe and explain the features of objective reality by collecting numerical data on observable behaviors of samples and subjecting these data for statistical analysis. According to Smith (1983), "neutral, scientific language" (p. 9) should be used in quantitative research in carrying out accurate facts. This means that the study itself should be expressed universally accepted figures. In this approach, in order to make generalizations, the study emphasizes the objectivity of a neutral scientific language. On the other hand, the qualitative approach seeks to discover the meaning and interpretation of the study cases intensively in natural conditions and subjecting the data to analytic induction (Gall, Gall, and Borg, 2003).

In (2001) explanation of Creswell's, quantitative studies are based on postpositivist claims in the accumulation of knowledge, the use of experiments and studies, and collect data on predetermined instruments that yield statistical data.

According to Barker, Pistrang, and Elliot (2002), "no single approach to research is the best overall, but what is important is that the methods be appropriate for matters under investigation. No one method of research is inherently superior to any other: all methods have their advantages and disadvantages "(p. 245). Instead of the collision one approach against another, more fruitful to follow the strategy of integration of these methods. The main advantage is that the use of results-based approach to pluralism, which may arise in an integrative way. This closes the gap between quantitative and qualitative approaches.

In reviewing the literature, there are only a few criticisms mixed approach, research method, and these ...
