Father Damien was a Roman Catholic Priest from Belgium. He was the seventh child of a corn merchant in the village of Tremelo in Flemish Brabant. As a boy, he would hear tales of Christian saints and martyrs and eventually, led him to be a member of the holy orders. He went to college at Braine-le-Comte, and joined the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts. Damien was born Jozef De Veuster and took the name Damien in French when he made his first vow to the church.
