Introduction

One role of public health agencies is to encourage healthful behaviors in the population. Because of budget limitations, agencies must choose effective interventions. Insights from the theories of individual behavioral change and social/health marketing may help agencies choose the interventions that best improve the health of the public. Diehr, Derleth, Cai, and Newman (2007) have suggested a thought experiment to compare the effectiveness of different generic public health interventions.
