Person Centred Planning: Problems in Implementation

Introduction

National Quality Standards: Residential Services for People with Disabilities are standards for enhancing the Quality of healthcare services for disable people, provided by the Health Information and Quality Authority. The report summarizes a vision to support disable people in the UK. The expectations are built around a notion that the reason why disable people not perform at par with normal people is because of the low expectations associated with them. The program focuses on identifying the strengths of such individuals. The UN, in 2006, staged the convention on the rights of Disable persons. These standards are developed in line with the recommendations of the UN; however, implementing a PCP system is not easy in current economic conditions, where the government is already facing challenges of balancing fiscal revenues with escalating costs (Department of Health, 2005).

Discussion

PCP (person Centred planing) is a strategy, made by the British government, for the development and enhancement of healthcare delivery for people with intellectual disabilities.

Lack of Needed Resources

Modern public care services are designed on a resource system based on an ineffective, disgraceful mode of delivering the services. Therefore, implementation of a new delivery system is not possible without re-designing resource management and allocation (Routledge and Gitsham, 2004). This change is required in relation to the authorization, contracting, and service payment.

Staff

Human resource is the main resource for delivering healthcare through person Centred approach, both in terms of staff skill level and sufficiency of staffing level. According to Mansell and Beadle-Brown (2004), one main reason, why Organizations are facing issues in implementing a PCP approach, is shortage of skilled staff.
