Discussion and Analysis
The lifestyle and its impact
The healthy lifestyle is a set of behavioural patterns related to health, as determined by the choices people make according to the options available and the opportunities offered by their own lifestyle. Thus, the lifestyle can be understood as a health-related behaviour (such as the practice of physical activity) that is made ??possible or limited by the social situation, and living conditions. The epidemiological transition from acute to chronic disease is the main cause of death in our society, and has important implications for the health today.
During the 80's, the study of lifestyle reached a high stage in the field of biomedical sciences, because, after various medical reports, healthcare authorities investigated the importance of lifestyle and its determinants on the health of individuals. Definition of the lifestyle in the field of health sciences could be considered as the “set of decisions people make that affect their health”.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has provided a more concrete definition of lifestyle related health, as “a general life based on the interaction between living conditions and individual patterns of behaviour determined by socio-cultural factors and personal characteristics” (Luigi & Jeremy 2003, pp.3).
Components and lifestyle determinants of health
Lifestyle related to health means those habitual behaviours that have an influence on the health of individuals (Such as smoking, the amount of regular physical activity, diet, etc). The determinants of lifestyle related to health are diverse and their study can be approached from two very different perspectives. The first perspective is individual and the objects of study are primarily biological, genetic and behavioural factors and individual psychological characteristics. The second perspective is related to demographic and cultural issues, and it studies the influence of factors such as social, economic or environmental, that is, different elements of the environment. During human development, there are set of multiple transactions between the two contexts and establishment of adaptive patterns of behaviour is formerly known as lifestyle (Department of Health 2008, ...
