Studies have shown that healthcare experience for CIO's (Chief Information Officer) today holds more significance than the past. In order to develop and implement initiatives, a vision must be provided by the CIO for healthcare technology in the organization (Penrod, 1990). The range for these initiatives starts from the boardroom to clinical suites. A lot of IT initiatives are also developed to so that the cost effectiveness of administrative and clinical functions can be improved. This further helps to enhance the healthcare system in terms of quality. With the help of these initiatives, an organization is able to analyze the changing market and to understand the healthcare system in a better way. However, nowadays, CIO's are able to gain more with few resources available as the competition is getting tougher. CIO's is facing more and more complex challenges in the healthcare organization. For the success of an organization, the role of CIO plays a significant role and therefore different programs have been undertaken such as enduring quality and safety of the patient, clinical transformation, implementation of medical records in an electronic way etc. The most important skills required by the CIO nowadays are to adjust with the demands and priorities that are changing rapidly with the passage of time. This however is also very important to adjust with the changes as they are one of the most important skills that CIO's should possess nowadays so that they can easily cater to the deepening recession and significant challenges taking place. Furthermore, healthcare experience also helps CIO's to bring new challenges and skills that are required to deal and handle with the new environment of healthcare and IT.
