Introduction

Self-concept is the ability to be able to see them as "part", we get a picture as the other to us. This pattern affects the way in which we take care of yourself physically, emotionally and in how we treat others. People who have low self-esteem may feel that they are not worth attention, or other concerns. The development of self-esteem is not always dependent on an accurate assessment. Even if we grossly misrepresent our self-esteem of those mistakes become part of our everyday lives.

Discussion

Self-concept consists of four components, body image, self esteem, identity, and role activities. These components have an impact: 1) how others react to our body, and behavior. 2) our own expectations of themselves. 3) Prior experience. 4) Represents the feelings to yourself. 5) spiritual identity. 6) The structure of personality. 7) the perception of stimuli that are input to itself. 8) Relationship with yourself and others. (Perry, Potter, 2001). Self-esteem of man can be changed by stress, affecting any one or all four components. If people can not overcome or adapt to the disease can cause stress (Phillips, 1999).

Body Image

When you stand in front of a mirror you like what you see? Body image, as you can see and feel about their appearance. Your perceptions affect cognitive growth and physical development. Normal development changes, such as growth and aging have great influence on body image. Puberty is a particularly difficult time for teenagers to deal with the body. The body goes through many changes when puberty begins. These changes make it difficult for adolescents to judge whether they are normal or not. Our perception of body image is also affected by aging. Wrinkles, gray hair, visual impairment, hearing impairment and mobility are just a few examples of changes in older people go through (Speiser, 2005).

Society and culture also affect body image. Americans in contemporary society bombarded with media images of girls and women who are unrealistically thin, while the men are under pressure to become more and look stronger. Although neither men nor women can not escape the aging process, western society are taught to believe that aging is a terrible process. It is not so in other cultures. Eastern cultures to seek and respect the elderly.

Any change in appearance or function of the body becomes a stressor body image, and will require changes in human perception of body image. There are many general stress of the body image of the face amputation and mutilation are the most obvious. Although the normal developmental processes, such as pregnancy, puberty, and aging can also affect body image. Changes in the person of "normal" function caused by chronic illness such as kidney disease will also require changes in the image of the human body. Perry and Potter list of some common stressors of body image: the course of aging Anorexia
